Jan Sutcliffe has over twenty-five years of experience as an editor of long-format films for television, theatrical, and online distribution with a strong focus on films that reveal the heroic aspect of people connecting in diverse communities or going through life transitions.

Her work has aired on PBS, NBC, ABC, CNBC, and The Discovery Channel, as well as at numerous independent film and documentary festivals, and even screened on the National Mall in Washington D.C. She has been fortunate to collaborate with many noted independent documentary producers/directors working today including Peter Gilbert, Bill Kurtis, Bob Hercules, and Tod Lending. Her most recent film project, The Gate, a documentary about the origin of the Bahá'í  faith, has been translated into over twenty languages.

Jan's passion for film took root while studying experimental film in college and blossomed during a semester abroad in France where she pursued independent study in French cinema.  She received a Master of Arts in Humanities from the University at Buffalo where her teachers included filmmakers Hollis Frampton, Thom Anderson, and theorist Brian Henderson.

While based in Chicago, Jan forged a successful career that now spans almost three decades, earning a strong reputation as a skillful, creative problem solver valued for her intelligence, collaborative spirit, and love of good storytelling. With a recent move to Baltimore, Maryland she's looking forward to getting to know the independent film community and stories of "Charm City."
